Helen M. Albert

Ms. Helen Albert is the Deputy Inspector General for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In that capacity, she oversees the operations of a nationwide organization of auditors, investigators, evaluators, counsel, and support staff. Prior to serving in this role, she was the Assistant Inspector General for Management and Policy. She was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2003 and has served at the HUD OIG since 2002. Previously, Ms. Albert was the Director of External Operations at the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General.

Prior to joining the Inspector General community in January 1997, Ms. Albert served for over a decade in the U.S. Senate as the Chief Investigator of two Senate committees focusing on counter-narcotics and fraud-related issues. Preceding her twenty-five years of service in the federal government, Ms. Albert worked in New York City for a number of firms in the legal and financial fields.

Ms. Albert received her Bachelor of Arts with honors from the State University of New York at Binghamton and did graduate work in International Relations and National Security at the George Washington University. She has two children and her husband is a retired Colonel from the United States Air Force having served a tour in Afghanistan.
