The objective of this audit is to determine whether HUD is meeting the 13 responsibilities as stated in the Geospatial Data Act of 2018 (Act), concerning its collection, production, acquisition, maintenance, distribution, use, and preservation of geospatial data.  The Act requires 16 covered agencies, to have its geospatial data audited every two years. 

HUD OIG is conducting the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 evaluation of the HUD's information security program and practices, as required by the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) of 2014.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is initiating an evaluation of HUD’s Robotics Process Automation (RPA) program. The evaluation objective is to assess the maturity of HUD’s RPA activities and determine whether HUD implemented related controls to address technology and program management risks.

HUD OIG is auditing HUD’s proactive communication to homeowners with FHA-insured single family mortgages.  The CARES Act and various HUD guidance contain key information that is relevant for homeowners such as details about mortgage loan forbearance protections.

In accordance with the mandated work in FISMA, we are conducting the annual evaluation of information security practices, policies, and procedures established by HUD and the HUD Office of the Chief Information Officer. As part of the evaluation, we will also review 8 sample systems within 7 HUD program offices. Two products will result from our work; the mandated DHS CyberScope FISMA IG metrics report and a narrative report.

We will review HUD OCIO’s most recent IT modernization roadmap and strategy along with any other supporting documentation HUD can provide regarding modernization progress and milestones. Specifically, we will identify the various ongoing modernization projects within the roadmap and obtain documentation about the status of the individual projects.

To provide the HUD Secretary, senior leadership and Congress with an overview of the current status of Information Technology (IT) at HUD, the challenges they have overcome since the first 2018 IT Brief and the challenges they continue to face.

HUD OIG is conducting research to assess the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s information technology (IT) infrastructure’s preparedness and capability to support mass mandatory telework due to the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19). This also included assessing for compliance with HUD information technology policies and Federal information system security requirements.
