LUBBOCK, TX - A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted a woman for embezzling money from the Levelland Housing Authority.

The indictment said, “Cecilia Chavez, defendant, … used her position as an agent of the Levelland Housing Authority to embezzle…”

The indictment said she “wrongfully purchased items for personal use using the Levelland Housing Authority's credit accounts, and wrongfully used the Levelland Housing Authority's funds for her personal use.”

One count of her indictment accused her of stealing from the housing authority between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015.  A second count accused her of stealing money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development between January 1, 2011 and June 6, 2017.

The indictment said if she is found guilty, she will be ordered to pay back the money.

The indictment said, “Cecilia Chavez, shall forfeit to the United States of America … a sum of money equal to $44,460.09 in United States currency representing the amount of proceeds obtained as a result of the above described offense.”

Her age and city of residence were not listed in court records.
