A change is coming to the way Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is handled in HUD OIG e-mails to recipients at other organizations. This change impacts outbound emails matching screening filters that look for suspected Social Security Numbers.
It is incumbent upon and mandated through the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), that HUD OIG, as a Federal Government agency positions ourselves as trustworthy stewards of the Personally Identifiable Information that we deal with in conducting our mission.
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) software protects private, sensitive and confidential data when it is emailed outside of the HUD OIG network and over the internet. DLP detects at-risk data in an email automatically and encrypts it before sending to recipients outside of HUD OIG.
This video will provide detailed instructions on how to unencrypt and read email from HUD OIG.
