HUD OIG is auditing HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) implementation of Executive Order 13988. The order described how to enforce prohibitions on sex discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation. The audit objective is to determine whether HUD (1) established and implemented a plan to prevent and combat discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation; (2) ensured its FHEO Regional Offices, Fair Housing Assistance Program agencies, and Fair Housing Initiative Program grantees identified allegations of discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation received since January 20, 2020; and (3) ensured that these entities notified people that their discrimination claims related to gender identity or sexual orientation may be timely and jurisdictional for filing.
