Audra Dortch was appointed Assistant Inspector General for Investigation (AIGI) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Inspector General (OIG) on January 2, 2024. As AIGI for OI, Ms. Dortch oversees all investigative field operations across the country. Ms. Dortch previously served as the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for OI where she was responsible for all investigative headquarters operations in Washington, DC.
Prior to joining HUD OIG, Ms. Dortch served as Headquarters Operations Special Agent in Charge (SAC) at the U.S. Small Business Administration OIG. In that role, she was responsible for the Headquarters Operations Unit, Office of Security Operations, Administrative Support, and the OIG Hotline.
From 2012 to 2020, Ms. Dortch served as SAC of Headquarters Operations at the U.S. Department of the Interior OIG with oversight of all investigative operational functions, including a headquarters division and computer crimes unit. In addition, she served as SAC at the U.S. State Department OIG, overseeing domestic and international investigations.
Ms. Dortch is a veteran of the U.S. Army and has more than 25 years of experience in management and federal law enforcement. She began her federal law enforcement career as a criminal investigator with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, Major Procurement Fraud Unit, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Ms. Dortch is a native of Bay Minette, Alabama and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a minor in mathematics from the University of Detroit Mercy, Detroit, Michigan. She also holds certificates of professional development from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University.
